Washington, DC — The ICAP Fellows Association applauds Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s appointment of Ambassador Gina Abercrombie-Winstanley, ICAP Class of 1997, as the U.S. Department of State’s inaugural Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer. Ambassador Abercrombie-Winstanley is an accomplished diplomat having served in Iraq, Indonesia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and as Ambassador in Malta. Throughout her career, she has dedicated herself not only to representing America’s values and ideals abroad, but also living by those values.
She has supported diversity, equity, and inclusion through her mentorship of State Department officials and ICAP Fellows. She also cofounded The Leadership Council for Women in National Security in 2019 to promote women of color in international affairs.
The creation of the Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer recognizes that America’s strength and resilience lies in the diversity of its people. We believe that the Department’s actions can be a model for other departments and agencies and advance the Biden Administration’s goal of increasing diversity across the board. The ICAP Fellows Association looks forward to working with officials to ensure diversity and inclusion are incorporated into every level of the Department.

As professionals in the foreign policy field, the ICAP Fellows Association supports our Fellows through mentorship, networking, resources, and opportunities at international agencies and organizations in the U.S. and globally.
